Function Room Events (Panels)
Panels are the defining event of RodCon. During panels, readers, writers, publishers, booksellers, and educators get to interact and share their thoughts on literature, reading, literacy, and the book market in the Philippines.

We are reserving special function rooms for our multi-track panels. The panels will take place continuously throughout the convention. Panels may range from lectures to discussion groups to workshops to book launchings and convocations.

Panels will last for 90 minutes each with a thirty-minute break in between panels. Function rooms can accommodate THIRTY-FIVE (35) to FORTY (40) people per panel. Read or Die will provide multi-media equipment (except for LD screens), security and manage logistics and promotions for the participants.

Panel schedules will be published in our Program Guide. Biographies of guest speakers will be published in our souvenir publication.

Exhibits
Read or Die, in partnership with cultural associations, bookstores, organizations and publishers, will set up specially themed book exhibits in the convention. The nature of these exhibits are primarily informative, and exhibits will be sorted according to genre, cultural selection, or, in the case, for example, of a literary retrospective, collections of an author's work.

Our current planned exhibits for the 2007 Convention include a retrospective of Nick Joaquin in partnership with the UP Filipiniana Library; a gallery of Liwayway Magazine illustrations courtesy of Mr. Gerry Alanguilan of Komikero Publishing; an exhibit of the Goethe Institut’s and Instituto Cervantes’ collections; and an exhibit of rare books with Avalon Books.

Film Showing
Read or Die will be sponsoring film screenings in a function room set aside for the purpose throughout the two days of the convention. The film screenings will feature movies based on books. A few films in our immediate line-up include: Diana Wynne Jones' Howl's Moving Castle (2004, directed by Hayao Miyazaki), Philip K. Dick's Blade Runner (1982, directed by Ridley Scott), Nick Joaquin's Portrait of the Artist as Filipino (1958, directed by Lamberto Arellano).

Live Performances
Noted Filipino bands Radioactive Sago Project and Up Dharma Down will also be performing live in the Grand Ballroom on February 4, 2007. The bands will be debuting songs from an upcoming concept album produced by Read or Die featuring bands from innovative indie record label Terno Recordings. All the songs in the album will be original compositions based on Filipino literary works.

Readers Corner
Where readers can meet up and talk about books to their hearts' content. Facilitated by Read or Die. Schedule/list of books to be discussed to follow. The swap area can also be found here.

Convention attendees are encouraged to bring their secondhand books to either swap or donate.

Writers Corner
If you’re a writer and you or your writing group would like to get a chance to meet readers in RodCon, you can schedule a slot at the Writers Corner. You may choose to use your slot as a book signing or as a simple meeting place with readers (and would-be readers). To make a reservation, please contact us at rodcon.sec@gmail.com or at 09283555365.

The Secretariat has issued invitations to the Readers’ Choice nominees to spend some time in the Writers Corner. A schedule will follow later.

Publishing Depot
The Publishing Depot is set aside for potential writers to meet publishing and bookstore representatives. You may either make inquiries about submissions or use the depot as a means of submitting your manuscripts.

Book Raffles
Free books courtesy of our sponsors and participating organizations will be raffled off and given way all throughout the convention.

Book Swap
Participants can bring a book and swap it for another book. If a participant brings a book to be swapped to the con, he or she will be handed a token which then can exchange for a book of their choice from our swap pile.
