Building Libraries For Elementary Public Schools
All proceeds of RodCon 2007 will be given to our chosen
beneficary foundation for this year—the AHON Foundation. The
AHON Foundation is a non-stock, non-profit organization with a
mission to develop public elementary libraries all over the
Philippines.
AHON inagurated its first library on August 9, 2006 in
cooperation with the Industrial Valley Elementary School, the
Industrial Valley Community, Filway Marketing, and Adarna House.
The foundation also recently refurbished the library of the
Concepcion Elementary School (CES) in Marikina on November 14,
2006. A new library for another Marikina public elementary
school is set to launch on January 2007. Plans are also in place
to expand operations in other parts of Manila by March 2007.
Campaign For A National Book Development Trust Fund
The National Book Development Board is lobbying the Senate to
pass the National Book Development Trust Fund Bill (HB 1531).
The enactment into law of HB 1531 would enable at least
sixty-five (65) grants to be awarded yearly so that deserving
writers or researchers in the regions of the Philippines could
produce or finish excellent manuscripts for publication. These
grants could go a long way towards the production of a greater
number and variety of books that are useful and relevant to our
local context.
Read or Die supports the campaign for a National Book
Development Trust Fund. We will be conducting a signature drive
and information campaign among convention attendees with the
National Book Development Board during and before RodCon to
solicit support for the bill and for Filipino authors.
If you would like to know more about the bill and the signature
drive, please visit the website of the National Book Development
Board or the RodCon website.
