About Us
Independent Press Philippines is a non-profit organization which supports independent publishing and publishers in the Philippines. We believe that there is a significant niche for small and independent presses in a literary market currently dominated by textbook production and large family-owned publishing houses. Our mission is to profile, encourage, and provide resources for creative, entrepreneurial people who love books and who are interested in introducing new books and authors using the platform of independent publishing.
The IPP aims to diversify the publishing environment in the Philippines and provide readers with a wider range of titles by Filipino authors to choose from; authors with a greater number of options through which they can be published; and independent publishers with the necessary networks and connections in order to promote and sell their catalogs.
Indie In Independent
While there isn't much of a difference between a "small press" and an "independent press," an important distinction lies in the fact that, according to the Small Press Center, "the raison d'etre for independent publishers is not their small size but the types of books they publish and their cultural and financial point-of-view." Other independent publishers may be larger in size, and not considered to be a small press at all.
The IPP also covers self-publishing and, to some extent, vanity presses.
People
Independent Press Philippines is an initiative of Organization XIII through the Read or Die Convention 2007 with the support of the National Book Development Board.
The IPP is currently online-based and the bulk of our support in terms of manpower is drawn from Read or Die, the National Book Development Board, and associated organizations. While we have yet to set up a physical infrastructure for the IPP, we welcome support from volunteers and donors as we kickstart our events. If you are interested in the IPP and would like to volunteer in future, please send an email to kmandigma@gmail.com.
