Gawad Kabataan

Get Involved

Please support young readers in the Philippines. The Gawad Kabataan in itself is merely an initiative; we need your help to implement it effectively

Libraries

We encourage libraries to support the awards by nominating and donating books for the reading list or hosting children's reading groups for discussion sessions.

To join as a partner library, please email us.

Schools

Schools can participate in the awards by forming book clubs or reading groups composed of students in order for them to read and discuss shortlisted books with fellow readers. Likewise, the nominated books listed in the annual shortlist can be used as material for class reports and other creative activities.

If you are interested in volunteering your school's reading group for the Gawad Kabataan, please email us.

Parents

Parents can also join reading groups with their children or even form family-based reading groups at home. They are also encouraged to participate in book group conferences.

Writers

Writers can volunteer for a visiting authors program wherein they'll be asked to speak to a particular reading group or lead storystelling sessions.

Publishers

Publishers are invited to donate books for the awards, especially if shortlisted books are part of their catalog. Donated books will be distributed among volunteer reading groups. Publishers will be asked to donate at least ten copies per title.

Children's Advocates/NGOs

Organizations oriented towards protecting children's rights and welfare, or organizations concerned with literacy and literature (in general), are invited to participate in the Gawad Kabataan, either through setting up their own reading groups or through facilitating reading groups formed by schools and other organizations who may not have the staff for this part of the process.

We also welcome donations of books from the shortlist.

Volunteers

Individuals can contribute to the Gawad Kabataan by volunteering their time to facilitate reading groups or through forming children's reading groups in their own communities and neighborhoods. Please go to this page to find out more or you can email us.

Corporate Sponsors

Companies will be asked to buy books for reading groups and donate reading-related materials. They can also sponsor reading groups under their own name.
